Western Washington University
United States
University Attributes:
From the red brick of Old Main to its most contemporary classrooms, Western Washington University curves around the base of a peaceful hillside arboretum, surrounded by mountain-ringed Puget Sound. Abundant natural beauty is outside Western's windows; the urban variety of Seattle and Vancouver, B.C., is a short drive away. Our 13,000 students thrive in partnership with faculty rewarded for excellence in undergraduate education and nationally recognized for curriculum innovation. Students also learn through residence hall experiences, friendships, sports and organizations, exposure to other cultures, internships, and volunteer services to the community. Western is home to innovative theater and music, award-winning vehicle design, internationally acclaimed outdoor sculpture, unique environmental research, and exciting athletics. Since its founding in 1893 to train teachers for a growing new state, Western has proudly produced five generations of educators. For four decades, it has emphasized the breadth and quality of its liberal arts curriculum, the essence of the Western experience. In recent years, our increasingly diverse student body has prepared to compete in, and contribute to, a multicultural global society which demands technical and scientific innovation rooted in fundamental knowledge. While Western has evolved over the past century, the University continues to emphasize care for the individual student, commitment to academic excellence, and dedication to community service.
