International Student Program
United States
Highlights:
The college is located in downtown San Diego, close to shops, entertainment, restaurants, and the famous Balboa Park which is home to the San Diego Zoo and to most of the city's museums. It is also 1-2 miles from the Pacific Ocean and 20 minutes from the Mexican border. Academic curriculum: We offer courses of study in fields as diverse as biology, peace studies, graphic design, foreign languages (Spanish, French, Italian, German, Arabic, Russian), photography, history, political science, accounting, anthropology, sociology, chemistry, physics, business, computer science, musical theatre, electronic music, child development, radio and television, psychology, mathematics, English, etc. A TOEFL score of 500 on the paper-based exam or 61 on the internet based exam is required. Also proof of financial support. English language program is not available - students must be ready to begin college-level studies.
University Attributes:
San Diego City College is a two-year college which prepares students to transfer to the four-year university to complete the Bachelor's degree. The advantage to beginning college/university level studies at a community college is that the community college is significantly cheaper than a four-year university, class size is much smaller, and the faculty (who have Master's or PhD degrees) are primarily interested in teaching rather than doing research. Student support services are readily available. The College also has transfer admission guarantees with several local universities so that a student is "guaranteed" transfer to these specific universities rather than having to compete with other applicants to attend the university.
