University of Oklahoma
United States
University Attributes:
The University of Oklahoma is truly an extraordinary institution, known for its academic excellence and strong sense of community. Attracting top students from across the nation and 106 countries around the world, OU consistently ranks first or second in the nation in National Merit Scholar enrollment per capita at American public universities and is in the top five of public universities in graduation of Rhodes Scholars. OU is in the top 15 in private endowment per capita among public universities. Our exceptional faculty and students frequently meet outside the classroom for recreation and interactions with the larger university family. The Honors College, led by the historian of the History Channel, Dean Steven Gillon, pairs our finest faculty with classes of 22 or fewer students. OU ranks first in the Big 12 and at the top in the nation in international exchange agreements with universities around the world. In five years, OU has tripled its endowed faculty positions from 100 to 300, and a new student leadership center is part of a complete restoration of the student union. We are extraordinary, too, because of our excellent programs and resources. We recently opened the world's largest university-affiliated natural history museum, which displays the largest dinosaur in the United States and the oldest piece of art found in North America. In the fall of 2000, OU received the largest gift of French Impressionist paintings ever given to a university - the Weitzenhoffer Collection. We also have the largest history of science collection in the world, and our library is the only place in the United States where you can hold Galileo's handwriting in your own hand. Â Â Â OU provides a major university experience in a private college atmosphere. I hope you'll take time to visit our beautiful campus and to learn more about us.
